Internships

Aim 

 

The internship programme offers students the opportunity to train professionals capable of carrying out professional tasks and competences (skills, attitudes and aptitudes) in the field of Clinical Neuropsychology.

Professional internships are supervised by a tutor. Students undertake their internships in accredited centres and organisations, under the supervision of highly qualified professionals.

Collaborating centres include centres such as Osakidetza (Mental healthcare and general hospital network), private healthcare providers, private hospitals, foundations, associations and University of Deusto research teams working in the field of Neuropsychology on the evaluation and treatment of people with neurological and psychiatric disorders, brain damage and elderly people.

 

 

Structure and duration

Internships are structured as a compulsory subject for enrolled students, which are worth 24 ECTS divided into three subjects:

External Internships I 12 240hs at the host centre and 60 tutoring hours at the university and students' individual work. First Semester
External Internships II 6 120 hrs at the host centre and 30 tutoring hours at the university and students' individual work.

Second semester

Internship III*: 6 120 hrs at the host centre and 30 tutoring hours at the university and students' individual work. Second semester

Internship fields

These internships develop the evaluation and intervention objectives with regard to people with neuropsychological symptoms (cognitive, functional, emotional or behavioural deficit) resulting from a mental disorder (e.g. schizophrenia) or a neurological pathology or injury (acquired brain damage, attention deficit disorder and hyperactivity, cerebral palsy, multiple sclerosis, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, dementia, etc.). Likewise, they can also be undertaken in child and adult neuropsychology centres, mental health centres (e.g. Aita Menni), associations (e.g. ADEMBI, Apnabi), residential homes for the elderly, etc.

Students can choose the preferred field to undertake their internships and the internship coordinator will be responsible for assigning students an internship field according to their preferences.
 

Internship centres

Collaborating centres include centres such as Osakidetza (Mental healthcare and general hospital network), private healthcare providers, private hospitals, foundations, associations and University of Deusto research teams working in the field of Neuropsychology on the evaluation and treatment of people with neurological and psychiatric disorders, brain damage and elderly people.

With regard to the allocation of students to the various host centres, the University will be responsible for selecting the most suitable students for each internship position. To make this decision, the University will take into account 5 key aspects: academic record, motivational interview, students’ previous experience or background, additional training and the specific requirements for each Centre (i.e. language skills, students' place of residence...). Tutors will be responsible for assigning students to internship positions.
