Janire Fonseca Peso holds a diploma in Social Education (first degree with honours), a BA in Psychopedagogy and a University Teacher Training MA in Compulsory Secondary Education, the Baccalaureate, Vocational Training and Language Teaching (specialising in Educational Guidance), and has also specialised in Special Education Needs, all from the University of Deusto. She is currently carrying out her PhD studies within the Education and Learning throughout Life programme run by the University of Deusto. She is Lecturer at the University of Deusto, where she teaches at the Faculty of Psychology and Education at the Bilbao Campus. She teaches BA courses in Social Education. Specifically, she teaches the following subjects: Social Pedagogy, Citizens’ Education, Practicum I and Practicum II, and also tutors End-of-Degree Work. All subjects are taught in Basque (Gizarte Pedagogia, Herritartasun Hezkuntza). Her publications and interests mainly focus on citizens’ education, socio-educational intervention strategies, citizens’ participation, childhood and youth, community development, interculturality and global citizenship. In recent years she has been working mainly in fields of citizenship, education development and leisure and free time, programmes that promote social justice, awareness-raising, empowerment and social-educational inclusion. She has also worked with groups that find themselves in vulnerable and high-risk situations on both a national and international level. She forms part of the Intervention, Quality of Life and Social Inclusion research group. She carries out her research work within the Bizkume (Umearen etorkizuna eraikitzen) project, which is falls under the Bizkailab Agreement between the Provincial Council of Bizkaia and the University of Deusto. Her main line of research is Assessment and psycho-educational intervention with teenagers who find themselves in situations of risk or particular vulnerability.
